Bridge Music Jazz Presents Marianne McGregor

Fri 08 Sep 2017
Marianne McGregor 4

Weekly Jazz Series from jazz promotion body Bridge Music featuring UK and international touring bands and original music from Scottish based jazz ensembles. Jazz singer and songwriter from Orkney, Marianne grew up in a musical family, surrounded by Orkney's rich culture of music and art. Marianne sings with a variety of colours and tone in her voice and uses a breathy twist that is undoubtedly hers. Finding influence in singers such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Amy Winehouse among others, their expressive jazz vocals and meaningful delivery of tone and phrasing is what she tries to take from these idols and recreate in her own singing. Her songwriting is noted for its quirky charm and inviting feel. Following her success at this year’s Celtic Connections, as a winner of a prestigious Danny Kyle award, Marianne plans to release an album of original songs later this year. Marianne will be performing famous jazz standards, modern songs rearranged and original material.   Twice weekly Jazz Series Tuesdays and Fridays promoted by jazz promotion body Bridge Music featuring UK and international touring bands and original music from Scottish based jazz ensembles.
